Ensuring Drilling Safety with 'Call Before You Dig – 811'

In the realm of environmental drilling and excavation, safety is paramount, especially when working around underground utilities and pipelines. At EPI, we rigorously follow the 'Call Before You Dig – 811' protocol, a crucial step in preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of our team and the environment.

Understanding the Importance of Pipeline Location:

Pipelines, while being the safest method of fuel transportation, are mostly invisible, buried underground. Our first step in any project is to accurately locate these pipelines. This is achieved through the National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS), providing us with approximate locations and essential contact information for pipeline operators in our area.

Adhering to the 'Call Before You Dig – 811' Protocol:

Pipeline markers are only approximate indicators of their location. Hence, state laws mandate that excavators and contractors must call 811 - a free, nationwide safe-digging number. This call ensures that underground utilities, including pipelines, are accurately located and marked before any digging commences. By adhering to this protocol, we can significantly mitigate the risk of costly and potentially fatal accidents.

Recognizing and Responding to Leak Warnings:

Recognizing the warning signs of a leak is crucial. These can be identified through various indicators such as dark oily patches on the ground, a rainbow sheen on water, dead vegetation, or unusual hissing sounds near pipelines. In case of a suspected leak, our team is trained to take immediate safety measures: turning off equipment, moving to a higher location, avoiding any actions that might escalate the situation, and contacting emergency services.

At EPI, following these safety steps isn't just about meeting legal requirements – it's a core part of who we are. We believe in responsible, safe drilling practices that protect our team, our clients, and the environment. This commitment goes beyond just ticking boxes; it's woven into every project we undertake, ensuring that safety is always at the forefront of our operations.
